What is the difference between wetsuits and drysuits?

The key difference between a wetsuit and a drysuit is that wetsuits are designed to keep the wearer warm by trapping water inside the suit which is then warmed by body heat. Drysuits are designed to keep the wearer warm by keeping water out. Another key difference is the temperatures they are most suitable for, with wetsuits being suited to warmer temperatures and waters and drysuits being ideal for colder temperatures and chillier waters.

Drysuits provide more protection and warmth in colder temperatures (especially with warm layers worn underneath) and offer far more protection against wind-chill than a wetsuit. Additionally, drysuits require extra awareness around buoyancy and comfort due to the layer of air trapped inside the suit when worn.

At CrewSafe, we have a range of drysuits and clothing solutions to help keep you warm and dry in harsh conditions.

Will a drysuit keep you warm?

As mentioned above, drysuits are best suited for colder waters and are commonly used in winter sailing. There are numerous factors to consider when choosing to wear a drysuit, such as the time you plan on spending in the water, the condition of your suit and its components, such as zips and seals.

How long do dry bags last?

The lifespan of your dry bag will depend on the care you take when using it and the frequency of use you plan on getting out of it. A major determining factor to the longevity of your dry bag is protection against UV rays, with long exposure to direct sunlight causing the bag to wear down over time.

There are various other ways to increase how long your dry bag will last, including regular washing and maintenance, not overfilling your bag, and being careful wherever possible when using it. We have a wide range of dry bags available, including multiple colours, sizes, and materials.
